Chrysler Brings New Jobs to Michigan
Last week, Chrysler announced that CEO Sergio
Marchionne, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and other officials, UAW representatives
and company employees will gather just before lunchtime on Thursday, November
15, at the Mack I Engine Plant to announce new investments and jobs in
Southeast Michigan.
The Detroit
News is speculating the
announcement will be the confirmation of statements the company made last July
about upgrading the engine plant to accommodate production of the Pentastar
V-6. Mack I currently employs 144 hourly workers who assemble the 4.7-liter V-8
used in the Ram 1500 pickup.
While
exact details of the amount to be invested and potential new hiring are not
available at this time, Allpar can confirm the Mack I Plant will be getting the Pentastar engine. In
addition, Chrysler will be in-sourcing parts currently made by a supplier in
Mexico. According to our sources, the moves will help Chrysler resolve quality
issues and save money. Under the plan, it will actually cost less to produce
the engines in Detroit than it does in Mexico.

Chrysler's Profitability Up 80% In The Third-Quarter Of 2012
The third-largest Detroit carmaker said Monday that it earned $381 million in net income, up from $212 million in the same period a year ago. Revenue for the quarter was $15.5 billion, an 18 percent increase from $13.1 billion in the same period last year.
The results could be seen as the latest evidence that Chrysler’s improbable comeback from its government bailout and bankruptcy was not only sustainable, but accelerating.
“We’ve changed the conversation at Chrysler Group,” said Sergio Marchionne, the chief executive of both Chrysler and its Italian parent, Fiat. “We continue to work feverishly and are pleased to see that our all-consuming aspiration for excellence is translating into results.”
Chrysler’s solid results are propping up the faltering European operations of Fiat, which was scheduled to release its third-quarter earnings on Tuesday.
Mr. Marchionne may announce new moves to cut losses at Fiat, which is struggling to cope with the steepest decline in sales in Europe in nearly 20 years.
But there’s no need anymore to fix Chrysler, which has repaid its debt to the American taxpayers and totally revamped its product lineup since emerging from bankruptcy in 2009.
The company said its worldwide sales increased 12 percent in the third quarter to 556,000 vehicles. For the first nine months of the year, it sold 1.7 million vehicles, up from 1.4 million in the same period in 2011.
Before its financial collapse, Chrysler relied mostly on its pickups, SUVs and minivans to contribute the bulk of its profit. The company was particularly vulnerable to swings in gas prices, which drove consumers to buy smaller, more fuel-efficient passenger cars from other manufacturers.
With the assistance of Fiat technology and parts, Chrysler has broadened its lineup to include a compact car, the Dodge Dart, which gets 40 miles per gallon of gas. The company is also putting more efficient engines into its bread-and-butter models such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300.

| 2013 Dodge Dart |
Mr. Marchionne on Monday reaffirmed Chrysler’s full year targets of $1.5 billion in net income and global shipments of 2.3 million vehicles.
Chrysler’s balance sheet also continues to improve as its business grows. The company said it had $11.9 billion in cash at the end of the third quarter compared to $9.5 billion in the same period a year ago.
The company’s net industrial debt was $693 million at the end of the quarter, considerably lower than the $2.86 billion in debt on its books a year ago.
Chrysler’s two American rivals, General Motors and Ford, are expected to report lower earnings for the third quarter than a year ago, primarily because of growing losses in the troubled European car market. Ford was scheduled to report on Tuesday and G.M. on Wednesday.

LONG LIVE THE JEEP WAVE
The Jeep Wave is an endangered form of communication wherein Jeep owners acknowledge each other as kindred spirits -- people who refuse to let something as foolish as pavement determine where life takes them. It may be as simple as a single hand over the windshield frame or a few fingers above the steering wheel - the wave may vary, but the meaning stays the same.
No matter how you display the wave on the road or trail, it's important to remember the rules. Respect always goes up the chain according to the extent of vehicle modification, the amount of suffering at the hands of climate, and most importantly, the nostalgia factor. All hail the old metal.
While older or more modified rigs should usually receive a wave from newer models or those closer to stock, owners of the wild stuff are strongly encouraged to wave back and initiate the wave if newer owners don't (they might not know about it).
It's part of being a community of owners who know that
the trail is more important than the destination.

2012 Dodge Challenger Yellow Jacket
We have one in our showroom! Come down to Ed Koehn Chrysler Jeep and Dodge in Greenville, MI. Or visit us at http://www.edkoehnchryslerjeepdodge.com/
"Dodge released a limited-edition Yellow Jacket package for the 2012 Challenger SRT8 392 at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. The America-only model features an exclusive Stinger Yellow exterior paint highlighted by a black grille, new 20-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels with black-painted pockets, and black stripes that run down each side of the car. A special Yellow Jacket design and lettering can be found inside the stripes at the rear of the car. Inside, the standard leather seats feature an exclusive Stinger Yellow band with embroidered Yellow Jacket logo and silver stitching.
The term Yellow Jacket comes from a special two-seat targa-style show car formed from the first 1970 E-body Hemi Challenger Convertible. It featured a honey-gold color and included styling elements that would influence future Challengers including the grille that debuted on the ’71 Challenger and rear panel treatment used on the ‘72–‘74 cars. The Yellow Jacket lasted one year on the show circuit before being transformed into Diamante show car. The Diamante lasted four years before being stored and then sold into private hands.
The Yellow Jacket stems from the new-for-2012 SRT8 392, which replaces the 6.1-liter V-8 SRT8 for 2012. It is powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine providing 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. That’s 45 more horsepower and 50 more lb-ft of torque compared to the outgoing model and equates to a zero-to-60-mph time in the high four-second range and a quarter-mile time in the mid-to-high 12s. Other interesting performance statistics include a 0–100–0-mph time in the low 15s and a top speed of 182 mph with the manual transmission. The new engine loses a couple miles per gallon in the city and probably won’t make up for it with its small gains on the highway (comparisons vary by transmission).
The Yellow Jacket also features the two-mode adaptive damping suspension system that is an option on the 392. Dodge says the adaptive suspension on the Challenger SRT8 392 results in .90g capabilities on the skid pad. The system offers a Sport setting and an Automatic mode. In addition to the new adaptive suspension, the SRT8 392 features 14.2-inch front and 13.8-inch rear vented brake rotors with four-piston Brembo fixed calipers that can drag the car to a halt from 60 mph in as little as 117 feet.
The 392 package also contains a revised front fascia with large front chin spoiler, body-colored rear decklid spoiler, and “392 HEMI” badges. Inside, the SRT-exclusive Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) with performance pages gives instant feedback on 0–60-mph acceleration, 60–0-mph braking, G-forces, and one-eighth-mile and quarter-mile times."
