Chrysler Brings New Jobs to Michigan
Last week, Chrysler announced that CEO Sergio
Marchionne, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and other officials, UAW representatives
and company employees will gather just before lunchtime on Thursday, November
15, at the Mack I Engine Plant to announce new investments and jobs in
Southeast Michigan.
The Detroit
News is speculating the
announcement will be the confirmation of statements the company made last July
about upgrading the engine plant to accommodate production of the Pentastar
V-6. Mack I currently employs 144 hourly workers who assemble the 4.7-liter V-8
used in the Ram 1500 pickup.
While
exact details of the amount to be invested and potential new hiring are not
available at this time, Allpar can confirm the Mack I Plant will be getting the Pentastar engine. In
addition, Chrysler will be in-sourcing parts currently made by a supplier in
Mexico. According to our sources, the moves will help Chrysler resolve quality
issues and save money. Under the plan, it will actually cost less to produce
the engines in Detroit than it does in Mexico.
